Biography - Mercer County (NJ) Basketball Hall of Fame Inaugural Class (March 18, 2018)
Norman Van Arsdalen is married to his wife, Thelma, and they have two sons, Keith and Scott, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He began his education career in Princeton Regional Schools where he served as a teacher, coach, coordinator of Physical Education, Athletic Director, special assistant to the Superintendent in Athletics & Physical Education and high school administrative assistant.
Norm officiated High School and College basketball for many years. He has had the opportunity to serve the major college conferences under the jurisdiction of the Eastern College Athletic Conference. he has officiated in the National Invitational Tournament, Holiday Festival, Quaker City Tournament, and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Finals. In addition, he has officiated numerous international tournaments and games including the First International University Basketball Tournament in Tel Aviv, Israel; World Basketball Championships in El Salvador, Central America; Athens, Greece; Tokyo, Japan and two USA Olympic Trial camps. His travels have also included US State Department Overseas Clinics with the University of Kentucky basketball team in Greece, Israel and Iran.
Norm has been the recipient of many distinguished awards including the Panzer Alumni Association Award of Honor for Distinguished Leadership and Central Jersey IAABO Board 193 Leadership Award.
Norm has been the driving force behind the inception of our local Board #193. He has been instrumental in helping many local officials (including myself) to moe up in the officiating ranks.
